Even though it’s never really easy, deciding what to watch during December can be particularly tricky. But if you’re one of those people who are willing to take a break from all of the underrated shows and movies they missed from earlier this year, the obvious answer is usually diving into the festive world of Christmas movies. And while there’s nothing wrong with hitting play on a tried and true classic or annual comfort rewatch, it feels like it’s easier than ever this year to find a new favorite, thanks to the sheer number of films premiering. If you’re ready to get into the holiday spirit, here are some of the best new Netflix Christmas movies you should stream.

RELATED: 5 Best New Netflix Shows to Watch This December.

1. A Merry Little Ex-Mas

Most holiday movies tend to focus on couples falling in love amid the run-up to Christmas. But what about finding a reason to save an ending relationship? In this holiday rom-com, one woman (90s icon Alicia Silverstone) realizes in the middle of her amicable divorce from her husband (Oliver Hudson) that there might still be something worth fighting for in their marriage.

As the kind of little light-hearted content we all need to help unwind during the craziness of the holidays, I feel like it’s at least worth giving this cute (and relatively short at just 91 minutes) film a chance. Besides, with a supporting case that includes Melissa Joan Hart (more ’90s icons!) and Jameela Jamil, I suspect this has a stronger fighting chance than your typical Christmas rom-com fare.

2. Champagne Problems

Ever wondered what Emily in Paris might look like if it did a holiday arc? In this new film, a high-powered and career-obsessed American executive (Minka Kelly) sends herself to France to finalize the purchase of an iconic champagne house in the run-up to Christmas. But as you might expect from a seasonal rom-com, she soon realizes that one of the key players in her acquisition is—surprise!—a handsome and charming Frenchman (Tom Wozniczka). They soon find themselves swept up in their feelings and the spirit of the season.

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a little wanderlust with your holiday content, this is a no-brainer pick for you. I’ve already noticed a bit of similarity in how people are enjoying this movie with last year’s Lindsay Lohan Ireland-set rom-com, Irish Wish, in that groups of friends are getting together and popping bottles of champagne while they watch this French fantasy (and also to laugh at some of the corny lines, but that’s also kind of the point with many of these movies).

3. Jingle Bell Heist

The stress of the holiday season can sometimes be enough to push people into breaking bad. In this heist rom-com, an overworked retail employee (Olivia Holt) and an underappreciated security systems expert (Connor Swindells) plan a Christmastime robbery to get back at the cruel owner of a fancy London department store. But of course, things go beyond their planned caper when they begin to catch feelings for one another.

Even as a combination of formulas, I have to admit that this premise is at least a little original for the season! This could also be a good swap-in for Love, Actually or The Holiday if you’re looking for something festive that’s set in the U.K.

4. My Secret Santa

Anyone who’s a fan of the classic Mrs. Doubtfire might find something to love in this Christmas rom-com. It follows a woman (Alexandra Breckenridge) who develops an elaborate costume to land a job as a seasonal Santa at her local ski resort. However, once she’s landed the job, she begins to develop feelings for her boss—all while he has no idea about her double identity.

While the secret drag identity is absolutely not new to the romance genre, this looks a shade different enough to work, especially as a holiday vehicle. This low-stakes comedy could be just the thing you need to get out of that winter slump!

This year has so far proven to be an overall above-average year for television. Yet, there’s no denying that some fan favorites have hit the skids lately (I’m looking squarely at you, Yellowjackets and The Bear!), which have taken attention away from other fledgling productions. Instead of reflexively diving back into an underwhelming new season of a former favorite (or if you’ve already managed to watch all of the new Netflix shows this month), your time and enjoyment might better be served by queueing up some of the unsung great shows that were released since January. Read on for the most underrated TV series you should binge before 2025 is over.

RELATED: 4 Nostalgic ’00s TV Shows Making Big Comebacks.

1. All Her Fault (Peacock)

As a late contender to the must-watch list for 2025, this mystery thriller begins when a woman (Sarah Snook) drops off her young son at a friend’s house for a playdate—only to have the family claim they’ve never met her or her son when she comes back to pick him up later. What follows is a complex, suspenseful dive into a bizarre missing child nightmare.

I’ll admit it: This was a single-seating binge watch for me! Besides my ever-deepening appreciation for Snook and her boundless range as an actor, the writing punches well above many of the overhyped thrillers released earlier this year. It’s addictive without being pulpy, moody without being overly dire, and honestly, the kind of watch that feels right at the time of year when the sun sets super early. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you about the bingeability!

2. The Chair Company (HBO Max)

Is it fair to say a show is underrated if it hasn’t had a ton of time to accrue a genuine buzz or award hype? Possibly. But with Tim Robinson adding this slightly deranged dark comedy to his resume, I don’t want to run the risk of getting this recommendation in before everyone is talking about it in a few weeks.

Using the same cringe-humor and chaotic elements as I Think You Should Leave, this slightly more anxiety-inducing angle looks at the corporate world’s effect on our lives, and how one man begins to lose his grip on reality in search of answers.

If I’m being honest, part of me is including this on the list because the latest season of The Rehearsal was so wildly good earlier this year that I can’t possibly call it a dark horse at this point. But there’s also the case to be made that this is the show Severance wishes it could become on several levels, poking at the seemingly insurmountable control the workplace has on us and our overall well-being.

3. The Righteous Gemstones (HBO Max)

Few shows were harder for me to say goodbye to in 2025 than this over-the-top comedy from Danny McBride. It centers around the Gemstone family—operators of a wildly successful megachurch and ministry—as the siblings (McBride, Adam Devine, and Edi Patterson) vie for its control leading up to the imminent retirement of their father, Eli (John Goodman).

What might sound like a played-out storyline for a drama is actually more like a fever-dream version of Succession in its execution.

Naturally, its fourth and final season sent the show out on a high note and maintained its series-long run of phenomenal casting and one-of-a-kind performances. Sure, the series’ deeply devoted fan base might act like it’s an inevitable watch, but similar to McBride’s other productions, it seems like this is going to be yet another that doesn’t achieve full appreciation until after it’s wrapped.

Now that they’ve done that, you can even start from the beginning and watch all four (surprisingly distinct) seasons without having to wait for the next chapter.

4. Foundation (Apple TV)

In the wake of the Dune films, it feels like epic sci-fi and grandiose world-building franchises are starting to arise from the ashes of mediocre Star Wars spinoff fatigue (except you, Andor).

This show, based on the works of Isaac Asimov, makes a solid case for this argument, following a futuristic society that has developed a technology to predict the future of civilizations—only to realize a galactic dark age is on the horizon.

The most recent third season was arguably the strongest yet, thanks in no small part to great performances from Lee Pace and an all-around fantastic cast (not to mention fantastic costuming and set design).

It’s equal parts suspenseful and philosophical—which would likely have garnered it a much larger viewing audience if it were on any streaming platform besides the perennially undermarketed Apple TV. Still, this show manages to tackle a series of complex storylines without losing the thread or alienating viewers.

5. St. Denis Medical (Peacock/NBC)

I have to admit that I’ve been burnt out in recent years by single-camera comedies that were trying to be The Office without coming anywhere near its original success. However, this hospital-focused sitcom seems to have picked up on the right mixture of great casting, tight writing, and soft sentimentality that make it ideal low-stakes viewing.

I started this show after forcing myself through the first few underwhelming episodes of The Paper (which, if I’m being candid, I never really had high hopes for in the first place). The punchy humor and upbeat cadence made it something of a comfort watch, even though it’s the first time any of us are seeing it.

While I secretly fear they might try to change St. Denis Medical’s formula to overcome its current underrated status, its standout first season certainly warrants streaming.

6. Dept. Q (Netflix)

In this moody U.K. import based on a Danish novel series, a grizzled detective in Edinburgh is reassigned to head up a new cold case unit. Earlier this spring, I wrote up Dept. Q as one of the potential dark horses for great TV this year, with every intention of watching it—and I’m glad I did.

At first blush, it might not seem like a crime procedural would be all that original at a time when the format is particularly inundated. But the series lands a much harder punch than its counterparts in the genre, and at the rate I’m seeing people take notice of it, the show might not hold the “underrated” title for much longer.

When you think about it, it’s remarkable how much television has changed over the past two decades. And it’s not just about transitioning from using your DVR to cutting the cable in favor of streaming services, either: These days, many of the linear channels that brought our favorite programming are under fire for straying from their core focus, canceling beloved shows, and entirely shifting their scheduling.

But if you’re one of the many who feel like TV has become an unrecognizable landscape, you’re in luck. Some of the biggest hits of the aughts will soon be hitting the airwaves once more—with some so nostalgia-inducing you’ll be reaching for your Von Dutch hat and emo CDs. So get ready to go back in time with these 2000s TV shows that are making big comebacks soon.

1. One Tree Hill

Brooke Davis and Lucas kissing.

Over the past few years, this former WB (and then CW) teen drama has seen plenty of revived interest, thanks to the popularity of the rewatch podcast Drama Queens hosted by Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Hilary Burton (who was eventually replaced by castmate Robert Buckley after the discussions passed her run on the series).

But while the on-air cast reunion revealed everything from behind-the-scenes musings to serious allegations of mistreatment and sexual harassment by the show’s creator, Mark Schwahn, Bush and Lenz also used it as an opportunity to reveal news of a reboot that’s in the works.

In August 2024, both actors teased their return to the air in separate messages on their Instagram accounts, People reported. “What if you really can go back home?” they wrote. “If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up.”

According to Deadline, Netflix was in the works to revive the series, which would take place 20 years after the series finale (which ended roughly 13 years ago). The new show will reportedly star Bush and Burton as they navigate raising teens who face very similar issues to the ones they faced decades ago.

So far, no other actors from the original series have been confirmed to appear, with original core cast member Chad Michael Murray already saying he won’t sign on. But as production becomes formalized, additional returning cast are expected to join the show.

2. Scrubs

still from scrubs

It’s hard to sum up everything Scrubs accomplished in its nine-season run, a dramedy that followed the lives of medical residents and their advisors as they launched their careers as doctors. But now, the sentimental-yet-hilarious show has been revived on the table and is set to come back in early 2026 for another go.

In July, ABC announced that it had issued a series order for the program, which will reunite original cast members Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke with the series’ creator, Bill Lawrence, Variety reported.

“‘Scrubs’ means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together,” Lawrence said.

Reportedly, the rebooted series will follow the friends through their old stomping grounds at Sacred Heart Hospital. But of course, the crew will also have to deal with changes in their professions—as well as in their relationships—that have occurred over the past 20 years. The first episode will premiere on Feb. 25 of next year.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

buffy the vampire slayer

Buffy has been through a lot as a franchise, as a movie adapted into a show that was cancelled, killed off the titular character, and then revived her when it was picked up by a different network.

But despite the chaotic arc, there’s no denying that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s bold and empowering portrayal of a young woman who happens to have a knack for battling the undead remains one of the most long-standing pop culture relics of the late 90s and early 2000s—so much, in fact, that the show is rising from the dead yet again next year.

The latest iteration, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, recently finished filming its pilot episode and will hit Hulu within months, Variety reports. The updated series will feature Ryan Kiera Armstrong as its main, alongside Gellar in a recurring role (the two have even been training together for their roles).

But while very little has been revealed about the premise of the reboot, the elder actor has made no secret that the show will bridge the gap for long-time elder millennial fans and brand new viewers.

“This is a show that will cater definitely to the [original fans],” Gellar recently told Variety. “There will always be Easter eggs because there was Easter eggs in the original…but we also want to introduce it to people that maybe haven’t seen the show.”

4. Malcom in the Middle

still from malcolm in the middle

It’s not exactly fair to call this sitcom underrated, thanks to the many award wins and nominations during its run. But to longtime fans, there was nothing else on TV quite like this quirky family comedy that used the perfect combination of unparalleled writing and a stellar cast made up of actors of all ages who simply made it work.

And while the show didn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger (well, besides the fact that Malcom’s parents insisted he grow up to become President of the United States), you’ll be able to catch up with the entire gang with a run of new episodes.

Fortunately, you won’t have to wait very long. The forthcoming Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will hit Disney+ in 2026, per VarietyPerhaps most impressively, the reboot is reuniting almost the entire core cast, with Frankie MunizJane KaczmarekBrian CranstonChristopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield reprising their roles. Erik Per Sullivan, who played younger brother Dewey, has since retired from acting and has avoided the spotlight for over a decade, but will be replaced by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

But even if you’re excited to reunite with the kooky characters, you might want to think of it as a quick visit rather than a long-term return: Unlike other full-run reboots, the beloved aughts show is only coming back for four half-hour episodes, which center around Hal (Cranston) and Lois’ (Kaczmarek) 40th wedding anniversary. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be worth watching.

“I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story,” Muniz told Variety. “It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with.”

Everyone knows that once Halloween has passed, the holiday season can officially kick off again—including the movies we watch. That’s why this month, most of the top streaming services are bringing back some of the most beloved holiday and Christmas movies ever released. Whether you’re looking for something to officially switch the mood over after Thanksgiving dinner or find yourself caught in an early snowstorm, there’s already plenty of great festive flicks to pick from. Here are some of the classic holiday movies we’ll be rewatching when they get their streaming comeback in November 2025.

RELATED: 5 New Hallmark Christmas Movies Premiering This Month.

1. A Christmas Story (HBO Max)

Ralphie A Christmas Story

We all paint a rosy picture of childhood Christmas memories. But if you look back hard enough, a lot of the happy memories are surrounded by plenty of mishaps that test the depths of your holiday spirit. And if there’s any film to perfectly capture Christmas chaos, it’s this relatable tale of a young boy named Ralphie who wants nothing more than to avoid bullies and open one very special present.

Arguably, this classic is one that has earned the love and respect of multiple generations. Besides the fact that audiences are now nostalgic for a movie about holiday nostalgia, it’s the kind of film that gets an annual rewatch precisely because it’s so perfectly packaged with the right proportions of comedy and sentimentality.

It’s also the perfect movie to put on repeat in the background throughout the season as a “comfort watch,” because even after dozens of rewatches, it never seems to get old.

2. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Peacock)

A still from Dr. Seuss' how the Grinch Stole Christmas

By now, the Grinch has become an irreplaceable modern addition to Christmas lore. But even after watching it for what feels like the hundredth time, this 1966 animated classic feels as timeless as anything related to the holidays, making it a perfect annual rewatch. (And even though it doesn’t hold up quite as well just 25 years later, the 2000 Jim Carrey live-action film version is worth an occasional revisiting, too.)

3. ELF (Hulu)

Will Ferrell in Elf

In this modern classic, Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) is raised in Santa’s workshop at the North Pole before discovering he’s a human and heading to New York to build a relationship with his biological father (James Caan).

It’s hard to believe that just over two decades have passed since this film’s release, but it’s just as sharp and heartwarming a viewing experience as the day it came out. A huge part of this is Ferrell’s performance and the unique style of humor he brings to the movie that appeals to both kids and full-grown adults. It’s a perfect family rewatch or mood lifter if you’re feeling at all glum about the holidays this year.

4 | National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (HBO Max)

Randy Quaid and Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Sometimes, the key to success during the holidays is just to laugh off the missteps and chaos. But in this 1989 classic, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his perennially unlucky family can’t seem to stay out of trouble from the moment they bring home their (very oversized) Christmas tree.

From a stream of visiting kooky family members to overly complicated light decorations, the over-the-top representations of familiar holiday gripes make this movie unexpectedly relatable.

However, what makes it rewatchable is its perfect blend of slapstick humor with a hilarious script and all-around fantastic comedic performances (especially Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie). This is a good one to pull out if you’re ever feeling hopeless or overwhelmed by your holiday arrangements.

5. Home Alone (Disney+)

Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone

In what might be the most enduring warning to overextended, busy parents everywhere, there’s almost nothing dated about this 1990 holiday classic (well, except maybe the McCallister home’s nostalgia-inspiring decor).

When you take a precocious child actor like Macaulay Culkin, combine it with zany and ultimately hapless villain roles played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, and tie it all together with a heartfelt comedic performance by Catherine O’Hara, it’s no wonder that a rewatch of this movie hits every year like a paint can to the face. Elder millennials who grew up idolizing Kevin McCallister will especially appreciate revisiting this one.

6. The Holiday (Amazon Prime Video)

Jude Law and Cameron Diaz in The Holiday

While the idea of swapping homes with someone today might not seem like a novel idea, the premise of this holiday-centered romantic comedy was unique when it was released just shy of two decades ago. But in true Nancy Meyers style, the down-on-their-luck main protagonists (Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz) make trading places across the Atlantic seem like a perfectly natural (and almost effortless) way to find love.

With much better performances and a punchier script than the genre typically sees, this movie still acts as a modern escapist fairy tale that never becomes sappy or saccharine.

Now that Halloween is over, the annual shift towards more festive entertainment is already starting to kick in—including on streaming services. And even though there’s already a whole slew of new shows on Netflix, Hulu, and beyond, it’s also now officially the time of year when holiday-themed baking shows make their triumphant return. Even if you’re already planning on spending plenty of time in the kitchen baking cookies, preparing for gatherings, or whipping up your favorite seasonal treats, there’s something undeniably comforting about cozying up on the couch, hitting play, and getting inspired with a new favorite series. Here are some of the best new holiday baking shows premiering in November 2025 that will help you get into the spirit of the season.

1 | The Great British Baking Show: Holidays, Season 8 (Netflix, Nov. 20)

Prue Lieth on the Great British Baking Show: Holidays

On the heels of yet another endearing season, the baking show to end all baking shows is coming back for yet another installment of its annual holiday series. As always, judge Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will critique returning bakers vying for a second chance at yuletide-tinged glory in the tent.

If I’m being completely honest, I would probably watch this holiday-themed show even if it aired in July. The Great British Baking Show has been must-watch TV in my home for years, and I’m not stopping now!

2 | Holiday Baking Championship, Season 12 (Food Network, Nov. 3)

Contestants on the Holiday Baking Championship

Just shy of its baker’s dozen season, this perennial festive classic is back with all of the over-the-top sets, unique challenges, and a big $25,000 prize for the winners. However, producers are shaking things up this year by splitting the 12 contestants into “naughty” and “nice” teams that will compete making holiday-themed dishes, whether that’s “Chrismukkah Platters” or “Chill & Frosty.” The best part? You can already start watching since the action kicked off on Nov. 3.

3 | Is It Cake? Holiday, Season 2 (Netflix, Nov. 25)

A knife cutting into a gingerbread man cake

With the heavy reliance on sweets, candy canes, and other confections, part of the holiday aesthetic is that practically everything looks a little edible. That’s what will make this second edition of what might be the most bizarre game show ever produced so challenging. Admittedly, it can be pretty fun to play along at home while wondering if that wreath could possibly just be a bundt cake with a very convincing meringue topping.

4 | Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas, Season 1 (Food Network, Nov. 5)

A group of contestants on Tournament of Champions: Holiday All Stars

Food Network fans may be fed up with the channel’s shift towards endless amounts of competition shows, but there’s no denying that Tournament of Champions is an entertaining watch. This year, the Guy Fieri-hosted show is launching its first-ever holiday edition in which contestants will have to whip up both sweet and savory festive foods. This one can be particularly fun to watch with family after a big holiday meal—especially if you’ve ever spent time with them crammed into a kitchen with them competing for oven space.

5| Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown, Season 4 (Food Network, Nov. 11)

Bobby Flay on Beat Bobby Flay

Cooking competition shows are one thing, but it’s another situation entirely when you’re expected to best Bobby Flay. The popular series is reviving its holiday edition with these special episodes, which feature some of Flay’s famous culinary friends tackling Christmas, Hanukkah, and Thanksgiving-appropriate dishes. Is it technically just a baking show? No. But it’s still the kind of quick-on-your-feet culinary inspiration that can come in handy around the holidays.

6 | Gingerbread Land, Season 1 (Food Network/Magnolia Network, Nov. 17)

Gingerbread Land

In this new show produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines, host Oliver Hudson will put contestants to the test with one of the most challenging pieces of edible holiday decor, gingerbread houses. But these aren’t just your simple log cabin with candy canes and peppermints: Expect moving, illuminated, edible pieces that go above and beyond what you’re used to seeing at your office’s annual competition. Who knows? Maybe you’ll finish feeling inspired to build your own!

The post 5 Best New Hulu and Amazon Prime Shows to Watch This November appeared first on Best Life.

With colder weather and shorter days, November is prime time for settling down on the couch and starting a brand new show. But don’t worry if you’ve already watched all the new Netflix shows this month: Other streaming services like Hulu and Amazon Prime Video have even content coming your way. From a tense thriller to a star-studded legal dramedy and even the return of a wild reality series, there’s truly something for everyone.

RELATED: 6 Best New Hallmark Christmas Movies Premiering in November.

1. Malice (Prime Video, Nov. 14)

If you’re in the market for a brand new thriller, you’re in luck. In this new Amazon Prime Video series, a wealthy businessman (David Duchovny) is targeted by a vengeful outsider (Jack Whitehall) who manages to work his way into his family’s inner circle while they’re on a vacation in Greece.

By the time they get home to London, they begin to realize the danger they’re in—but it might be too late to do anything about it.

Having seen no promotion or publicity for this show (as is typical for this streaming service), I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt. For one, Duchovny rarely misses when it comes to picking work. And when the premise overall sounds like a bit of Succession meets The White Lotus, there’s very little chance this won’t be entertaining.

2. All’s Fair (Hulu, Nov. 4)

Of all the shows premiering this month, it’s hard to top the buzz of All’s Fair. As usual, the latest from Ryan Murphy features a star-studded cast that includes Naomi WattsNiecy Nash-BettsKim KardashianGlenn Close, and Teyana Taylor.

The women play attorneys who decide to leave their chauvinistic firms behind to start their own divorce law practice. As you might expect of Murphy, their clients are all very recognizable stars, as well.

Even if the premise of the show wasn’t immediately intriguing, you need to hand it to Murphy, whose programs are still downright entertaining even in their worst iterations. I’m already picturing the number of memes that will pour out of this first season alone.

And if star power isn’t enough to draw you in, you might be one of the few feeling left out of a pop culture moment if you don’t at least tune in for a few episodes.

3. Bat-Fam (Prime Video, Nov. 10)

You don’t have to be a comic book fan to know that Batman is one of the darker, more brooding franchises out there. But in this new animated program, Batman and Alfred are joined by his son, Damian Wayne (who was crowned Little Batman in a previous show), as well as a group of friends, who descend upon Wayne Manor.

Unlike the scowly, growly-voiced Caped Crusader material of the past, this funny and upbeat cartoon is not your typical Gotham chronicles in the best ways.

As I’m making Thanksgiving plans, I’m already looking for shows I can watch with my younger siblings and cousins, and Bat-Fam seems to nail it perfectly. This will be an easy watch with young ones or anybody who appreciates a little lighthearted take on their favorite comic hero.

4. June Farms (Prime Video, Nov. 17)

If you’ve ever dreamt of quitting your day job and hightailing it to the Hudson Valley for a quieter life as a restaurant and event space manager, this show might make you think twice.

The unscripted series follows Matt Baumgartner as he operates a successful business but runs into problems when his unseasoned Gen Z employees create issues for him during his busiest time of year.

From what I can tell, this is a little bit of a “Vanderpump Rules, but make it country instead of West Hollywood” situation. While that might sound like a dig, I promise it’s not! This looks to be the kind of low-lift watch that can come in handy when you just need to distract your brain for a bit.

5. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Season 3 (Hulu, Nov. 13)

It turns out The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City aren’t the only Utah-based reality stars who’ve gained a massive following. In the latest season of this unexpected hit show, cameras follow a group of young women (I just had to delete and replace the word “friend group” there) dealing with personal crises, infighting, and the trials and tribulations of their shared viral social media stardom.

Here’s the thing about this show: It is 100 percent off-the-wall, unadulterated reality lunacy. But if you’re the type who can’t help but tune in for fights, meltdowns, breakups, hookups, and “wow, that’s definitely unscripted and certainly not the hand of a producer” type reality drama, this is must-see-TV for you. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you if you end up cringe-watching the entire series!

Whether you’re burning out on scary movies leading up to Halloween or you simply haven’t had enough time to watch all of the new shows that dropped in October, you won’t have much downtime when it comes to Netflix through November. The grandaddy of all streaming services is keeping up the pace with a set of new shows, new seasons, and more. The binge-worthy programs run the gamut, from historical drama to a gritty new thriller from a legendary creator—and even the return of a critically acclaimed comedy. Here are some of the best new Netflix shows we’re excited to watch in November 2025.

RELATED: 15 Coziest Movies to Watch This Fall.

1 | The Beast in Me (Nov. 13)

Color me excited: This new series comes from creator Gabe Rotter, who famously brought The X-Files to life decades ago. It stars Claire Danes as Aggie Wiggs, a prolific author who becomes reclusive and withdrawn after the sudden death of her young son.

But soon, her life begins to mimic one of her novels when real estate mogul Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys) moves in next door, not long after he was named the prime suspect in his wife’s murder. Aggie then finds herself drawn into the mystery surrounding her new neighbor—and soon realizes the danger she’s putting herself in.

“It really is about all of our complicity,” Howard Gordon, the series’s showrunner, executive producer, and writer, told Netflix blog Tudum. “Whether it’s Monica Lewinsky or Amanda Knox or Nile Jarvis or whatever, sometimes we are quick to make assumptions. But when we are forced to look at it from another angle, do we have the humility and the compassion to listen and to revise the narrative?”

It’s obviously exciting to see an amazing cast and great production teams join forces for something new, and I find it hard to believe this is any exception. Danes has always shone brightest in tortured roles like these (Gordon was also the showrunner on Homeland, to boot), and Rhys proved he’s fully able to play a layered, mysterious, and intriguing character with his time on The Americans. I’m fully banking on this to be my mid-month binge, or maybe even a post-Thanksgiving weekend watch.

2 | Death by Lightning (Nov. 6)

Presidential assassinations always carry heavy consequences, but even though there have been four in American history, not all are equally commemorated.

This four-part miniseries follows President James Garfield (played by Michael Shannon), who enters office in the late 19th century amid sweeping societal and cultural changes in the U.S. However, the reluctant Commander-in-Chief is gunned down by fanatical supporter Charles Guiteau (played by Matthew Macfayden) at a crucial moment in his term. With a supporting cast like Bradley Whitford, Nick Offerman, and Betty Gilpin, this is bound to be a hit.

“It’s been the thrill of a lifetime seeing this crack team come together to bring James Garfield and his cohort back from the annals of long-forgotten history,” series creator Mike Makowsky told Tudum. “Six years into working on this project, it’s a story I still can’t believe is true—in all its wild, tragic glory—and it somehow feels even more relevant to our world today than ever before.”

As someone who loves historical drama, I’m already poised to love this show. But when you combine the fact that Michael Shannon is another actor I would watch in absolutely anything (not to mention being surrounded by stellar castmates) with the fact that this is a strangely understudied inflection point in American history, I am a true shoo-in to hit the play button on this.

3 | Stranger Things: Season 5, Volume 1 (Nov. 26)

All things must come to an end, including some of our favorite hit TV shows. This month, Stranger Things will begin its final run with the first four episodes of its last season. But true to form, the fan favorite isn’t going out quietly, tying up all of its loose ends as we say goodbye to the residents of Hawkins, Indiana, one last time.

“I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4,” Ross Duffer, the show’s co-creator, told Tudum. “We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”

The last season has actually served as a reminder for me to catch up on the recent seasons I’ve missed (whoops), and I might even spend November rewatching the entire series so I can cap it off with the plotlines fresh in my mind. After all, it’s been nearly a decade since this show first started—which is easier to believe when you look at the suddenly fully grown cast! Regardless, this could be placed firmly in “must-watch” territory.

4 | A Man on the Inside (Nov. 20)

As the chilly weather and shorter daylight hours begin to settle in through November, it’s always nice to have a comedy you can count on to lift your spirits.

This month, Ted Danson is coming back with the second season of this Netflix original about a widowed retiree who chooses to reenter the workforce as a private investigator’s assistant. After cracking the case on a stolen ruby necklace, this next set of episodes will see a new case set on a college campus, along with some new supporting cast members—including Danson’s wife, Mary Steenburgen.

If you look at the structure of this show for even just a few seconds, it starts bearing a vague resemblance to Only Murders in the Building (which is a good thing!), albeit without the podcast. In the same vein, A Man on the Inside works because Danson has some of the best innate comedic chops to make it all work while seemingly effortless. It’s also not a bad family watch if you’re entertaining post-Thanksgiving guests!

5 | Selling the OC: Season 4 (Nov. 12)

Who’s ready to dive into the drama of high-ticket California real estate once again?! This offshoot is one of the more appealing properties in the constantly expanding, ever-popular Selling Sunset reality universe. In the fourth season, we’re seeing more of the same complications that come with selling massive homes in coastal southern California and all of the interoffice issues that come with it.

It’s been interesting for me to watch this Netflix franchise slowly approach Bravo-levels of reality notoriety. This has also brought a level of self-awareness to many of the show’s personalities, who know they need to feed into storylines to keep their coveted place on the cast. It’s low-investment, low-stakes watching, and the kind of show you can use to shut your brain down for a while. That, or to help fantasize about moving to a mansion on the beach. Either works!

Halloween is done and dusted, and you know what that means: It’s completely acceptable to start getting in the Christmas spirit. So, grab your mug of hot chocolate (we’re not judging if there’s a little Kahlua in there), put on your coziest flannel PJ’s, and fire up the Hallmark Channel app on your TV, because there’s a slew of new Christmas movies premiering this month that you’re not going to want to miss.

Hallmark Christmas movie guide 2025

Hallmark actually kicked off its annual Countdown to Christmas in October with a full lineup of brand-new movies that’ll premiere every weekend until Dec. 25. Here are the six holiday flicks we are most looking forward to this month.

1. A Newport Christmas: Sunday, Nov. 2

Before I became an editor, I worked as a historic preservationist, and my love of old buildings is still strong. Therefore, one of my favorite cities to visit is Newport, Rhode Island, where you can tour the grand, Gilded Age mansions that were once home to the Vanderbilts and Astors. These opulent homes are especially magnificent when they’re decked out for the holidays.

This year, you can experience that historic charm right from the comfort of your couch when A Newport Christmas premieres on the Hallmark Channel.

The movie follows a Newport socialist as she magically transports from 1905 to 2025. Of course, there’s a love interest in her future, and, naturally, some life lessons, too.

2. A Keller Christmas Vacation: Sunday, Nov. 9

A Keller Christmas Vacation stars, arguably, the Hallmark Channel’s most popular star, Jonathan Bennett. In this movie, he plays one of the Keller family’s three grown children, all of whom have lost touch with each other and are dealing with their own personal crisis.

But when they join their parents on a Danube River cruise “from Germany, through Salzburg, to Vienna touring beautiful European Christmas markets along the way,” they realize the true meaning of family. If nothing else, this movie is on my list for the stunning settings.

3. Three Wisest Men: Saturday, Nov. 15

The Hallmark Channel is giving the people what they want with a new movie about the beloved Brenner brothers. The first two films in the series, Three Wise Men and a Baby and Three Wiser Men and a Boy, centered on familial affairs, sibling bonds, and lighthearted comedy, themes that are also explored in the newest installment, Three Wisest Men.

This time around, Luke is expecting twins, Taylor is debating moving out of state for a new job, and Stephan is planning his wedding. However, when they learn their mother has put their childhood home up for sale, chaos ensues.

4. Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story: Saturday, Nov. 22

Last year, Hallmark brought us Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, complete with cameos from Donna Kelce and five NFL players.

This year, it’s a similar setup: Next-door neighbors, the Quinns and DeLucas, have long rooted their friendship in their shared membership to Bills Mafia. The story centers on a budding romance between a Quinn and a DeLuca, as well as a long-standing family secret.

You’ll be treated to even more cameos in A Bills Love Story, including those from Damar Hamlin, Coach Sean McDermott, Dion Dawkins, and Dawson Knox. Plus, in supporting roles are Tracy Pollan and Steve Schirripa.

5. The More the Merrier: Friday, Nov. 28

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy and The Pitt can get a reprieve from gory operating scenes and sad storylines with this emergency room Christmas movie.

The More the Merrier isn’t exactly a new idea: an ER doctor (Alice) volunteers to work the overnight Christmas Eve shift, but when the hospital gets snowed in, she has a lot of time to spend with the handsome new cardiologist (Brian). Plot twist: Three separate women go into labor on their watch!

6. Christmas at the Catnip Cafe: Sunday, Nov. 30

I have two orange cats that I’m completely obsessed with, so is this pick a bit biased? Yes. But, even if you’re more of a dog person, you can admit that a Christmas movie taking place at an adorable cat cafe is feel-good TV at its finest. Plus, long-time Hallmark fans will wax nostalgic over the classic storyline of big-city girl meets small-town guy (you know the rest).

The post Food Network Fans Slam Latest Cancellation: “Hate This New Game Show Network” appeared first on Best Life.

]]>
After 10 years and 40 seasons, Food Network’s hit series The Kitchen is coming to an end. The round-table-style cooking show starring Katie Lee Biegel, Sunny Anderson, Geoffrey Zakarian, and Jeff Mauro will air its final episode on Saturday, December 13, the cast recently announced. Naturally, fans of the show—which showcases new recipes and cooking instruction along with the cast’s feel-good rapport—are saddened by the news. But they’re also angry at how this feels like the final nail in the coffin for the Food Network as we know it.

RELATED: Fans Slam HGTV for Canceling Beloved Shows: “If I Wanted Drama I’d Watch Bravo.”

The Kitchen might’ve been the last actual cooking show on Food Network.

Around this time last year, Best Life published a story about how fans of Food Network were disgruntled over the network getting rid of almost all actual cooking shows, replacing them with competition shows.

For example, this week’s primetime lineup is made up of Halloween Baking Championship, Alex vs. America, Guy’s Grocery Games, Beat Bobby Flay, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (not a competition show but also not a cooking show), and
Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking.

The Kitchen, on the other hand, airs every week with a theme—such as Friendsgiving Favorites, Money-Saving Madness, No Carb Left Behind, and Kitchen Cantina—for which the chefs each prepare and demonstrate a recipe that viewers can then obtain on Food Network’s website.

“The food was great, I made so many recipes… the hosts really made you want to cook which I appreciate,” wrote one fan of the show on a Reddit thread.

The hosts seem like they have so much fun on the show. Genuine chemistry and fun recipes,” shared another. A third added, “I’ve gotten more recipes from this show than any other.”

However, soon, fans of the channel will be hard-pressed to find any content that features cooking.

Fans are calling the channel the “food game show network.”

With The Kitchen soon to be off the air, Food Network fans are growing increasingly frustrated.

“Why dont they just rename it the Guy Fieri channel featuring Bobby Flay. That’s all they show,” said one Redditor, to which another agreed, “If they want to cancel something, we could do with a lot less of Guy.”

“Probably going to be a change in format a la TLC which went from informative shows to the Duggars and Dance Moms. I expect to see things like ‘Mafia Kitchen’ which will be a Real Housewives knockoff about restaurants or ‘Super Mystery Diners’ where ghost hunters go into “haunted” restaurants. Bobby and Guy will still be on for legacy programming. It’s probably going to get real bleak pretty quick,” one viewer lamented.

“And…..Guy is the producer of all the competition shows,” said someone else.

“I hate this new game show network,” a Redditor decried—a sentiment shared by many who say The Kitchen’s cancellation was the last straw for them.

“It’s now nothing more than The Food Game Show network. Last time I watch that channel!” someone wrote.

“What in the world will they replace it with…more reruns of Diners Drive-In’s and Dives!?? I’m so done with this channel!!” shared a viewer.

But others say The Kitchen was on its way out for a while.

Some fans of The Kitchen say that, while they’re disappointed in losing one of the last cooking shows, they saw it coming.

“In [all] fairness, you can’t deny it was becoming pretty obvious the hosts were bored with themselves and half the time didn’t even like the food they were making or tasting,” said one Reddit user.

Someone else shared a similar sentiment in another Reddit thread: “To be super honest, for a while now I could really just feel their boredom with the whole thing. They would talk about “have I made a buffalo such-and-such? I don’t think I did yet, but I made buffalo practically everything else.” That sort of thing. Every week I used to save multiple recipes to try and they were usually good, some I have continued to make over the years. Recently, I realized I save practically nothing. ”

Viewers also feel that The Kitchen chefs have been ramping up for the inevitable cancellation.

“Katie has parlayed into wine , GZ does not need this, Sunny has been on Drew Barrymore show,” wrote a Redditor, while another added, “Jeff saw the writing on the wall – he’s been ramping up his social media content.”

RELATED: History Channel Fans Are Fed Up: “Now It’s Just Aliens Shows.”

And some point to larger issues at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Back in 2022, Warner Bros. and Discovery finalized a merger to create a new company called Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. This brought together WarnerMedia’s assets, including HBO, CNN, and Warner Bros. Pictures, and Discovery, Inc.’s networks, such as HGTV, Food Network, and the Discovery Channel.

Now, however, Warner Bros. Discovery plans to split its business into two separate public companies—Streaming & Studios, to house its film and premium television assets (like HBO), and Global Linear Networks, to house its cable networks.

Amid financial pressures, Warner Bros. Discovery is also considering a sale to Paramount Skydance, a media conglomerate owned by billionaire David Ellison.

And Food Network fans think all these top-level shakeups have something to do with the network’s programming.

“Any new program will probably be Warner Brothers cross-promotions or Bobby & Guy since they’re under contract, but probably little else that’s not reruns,” wrote one Redditor. “Probably much like this season’s holiday schedule. Specials from Guy & Bobby, a Harry Potter (parent company) tie-in, a Joanna Gaines crossover, and a scaled down Baking Championship.”

In another Reddit thread about the Food Network cutting back overall, someone surmised, “New orders from the top of WBD/FN wants everything to be TLC/Bravo style manufactured drama/rivalry, esp. with the baking championships the execs are prioritizing the “reality TV” of the shows. Overall executives are demanding innovation with tighter budgets and everyone too insecure with employment to try and push back.”

However, one semi-hopeful viewer concluded, “They are broke and some of these shows cost lots of money as these celebrity chefs are expensive. Maybe they can get back to the cheap to make shows without huge production values and theatrics and over the top celebrities.”

And is there anything cozier than a Hallmark Christmas movie? I couldn’t care less that it’s only October; if Hallmark says it’s time to watch a corny, feel-good flick, then I’m starting the holidays early this year. Ahead, find out which new Hallmark Christmas movies and series are premiering this month.

Hallmark Christmas movie guide 2025

The Hallmark Channel recently announced that its 16th annual Countdown to Christmas will kick off on Friday, October 17, with a slate of 24 brand-new movies that will premiere every Saturday and Sunday until the big day. Here’s some more info on the movies and shows that you can catch this month.

1. Mistletoe Murders (Oct. 17)

Cozy mystery meets Hallmark Christmas in this new series. It kicks off on Friday, Oct. 17, with two new episodes airing every Friday through Dec. 15.

In the “quaint tourist town” of Fletcher’s Grove, Emily Lane owns an all-year Christmas shop. But don’t let this wholesome exterior fool you: Emily is secretly running around solving local murders. And for the show’s second season, she’s getting some help from a handsome detective.

2. A Royal Montana Christmas (Oct. 18)

Cowboys are really having their moment right now, from a plethora of new romance books to TV series like Ransom Canyon and Yellowstone. So, naturally, Hallmark has gotten in the game, too, with a cowboy-themed Christmas movie.

However, in this case, it’s a real-life princess who visits the Montana ranch and gets swept up by a hunky, horse-riding man. Will she return to her royal duties or trade it all in for a quiet life out west? We all know the answer, but it doesn’t make us want to watch any less.

3. A Christmas Angel Match (Oct. 19)

Christmas angels typically work on holiday matchmaking alone, but this year, the Christmas Connection Department tells Monica and Michael they must work together. What ensues is an opposites-attract love story that’ll tug at your heartstrings.

4. Merry Christmas, Ted Cooper! (Oct. 25)

Optimistic weatherman Ted Cooper is determined to break his streak of bad-luck Christmases, but, of course, when he heads to his small hometown for the holidays, he’s faced with a series of missteps. But things turn around when Ted reconnects with a charming cast of characters from his high school days, including the woman he secretly had a crush on during his teen years.

5. Finding Mr. Christmas (Oct. 27)

Everyone’s favorite Hallmark star and cute-as-can-be television personality, Jonathan Bennett, hosts this reality series that follows 10 aspiring actors on their journey to become the network’s next big star. For its second season, you can expect gingerbread house-making competitions, horseback riding challenges, and more.

October is a high point in the year for watching TV. Whether it’s getting into spooky season with eerie new shows or embracing a comfort watch while cozying up on the couch, the month is practically made for streaming. Fortunately, Netflix is stepping up to the plate with plenty of new programming. From two returning fan-favorite series to a brand action thriller that is poised to become a smash hit, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. Read on for the best new Netflix shows coming out in October 2025.

1
Is It Cake? Halloween (Oct. 8)

Just because you’re leaning into spooky season doesn’t mean you need to limit yourself to horror shows. Fortunately, everyone’s favorite absurd yet undeniably entertaining competition show, Is It Cake?, is coming back with a special Halloween edition this year, putting contestants to the test to answer the question: Is that decorative black cat statue actually a baked good?

I understand that on paper, the ridiculous premise of this show sounds like something out of 30 Rock. But after a few viewings, I can report that this unique concept is good background TV at worst and downright hilarious at its best. Especially during a month when a lot of programming can be scary or jarring, it’s nice to have something to turn on while you turn your brain off.

Besides the fact that it’s genuinely impressive to see what some of these chefs are capable of, the Halloween theme should work especially well!

2
The Diplomat: Season 3 (Oct. 16)

There are few political thrillers in production today that pack the thrilling punch The Diplomat has in just two seasons. When we last left off, American ambassador to the U.K. Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) picked a fight with the Vice President Grace Penn (played phenomenally by Alison Janney) by accusing her of coordinating a terrorist attack—only to have the President die unexpectedly soon thereafter.

Now, Kate finds herself swept up by her understated ambition as she lands on the shortlist as a potential Vice President for her newly minted nemesis.

Whether you’re a political thriller fan or not, you simply cannot deny that this show is currently one of the best in Netflix’s stable. It manages to combine a Tom Clancy-esque adherence to tense reality while peppering in Mission: Impossible-style elements of surprise and plot twists.

Russell has done a fantastic job building her character, whose reluctant success always seems to take her by as much surprise as the wild events unfolding around her. And don’t worry about taking too much time to catch up: This nailbiter is absolutely the kind of show you’ll binge in two sittings!

3
Monster: The Ed Gein Story (Oct. 3)

If there’s anything scarier than a slasher movie during Halloween month, it’s a true horror story. For its third season, this revolving miniseries from producer Ryan Murphy is covering the bone-chilling case of Ed Gein (played by a completely unrecognizable Charlie Hunnam).

In a true case of reality topping fiction, the American serial killer’s spree in 1950s Wisconsin was so grotesque that it inspired multiple horror film franchises.

While I’m not always the biggest fan of his shows, I gladly admit that Murphy has a true penchant for making seriously scary material (at least half of the American Horror Story seasons are top-tier horror TV). Marrying that with his ability to take pulpy real-life news stories and turn them into engaging television, and you’re left with a bona fide trail of entertaining television—which I think bodes well for this truly horrifying subject matter.

Also, I’m not sure how Murphy has managed season after season of flawless casting, but landing Laurie Metcalf to play Gein’s overbearing mother is sure to be nothing short of an unmissable performance.

4
Boots (Oct. 9)

Military-focused shows are nothing new for Netflix. But this eight-part dramedy miniseries, which is based on the pivotal memoir The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White, follows closeted new recruit Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh) in the 1990s when being gay in the armed forces was still illegal.

At a time when it feels like everything in the world is changing, there’s nothing like a heartfelt story with a few laughs peppered in to bring everything back into perspective. This setup also provides a unique backdrop for a coming-of-age story, alongside a recent historical travesty that rarely receives the attention it deserves. Keep this one at the ready if you’re ready to embrace a fall of “feels.”

5
Nobody Wants This: Season 2 (Oct. 23)

It’s safe to say that Nobody Wants This was one of the biggest breakout hits of last year, which followed the unlikely budding relationship between sex and dating podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and young rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). Without giving too much away, this season picks up where the first left off, providing a new set of challenges for the fledgling couple, as well as their families.

A lot of the hype around this show came from elder millennials who were thrilled at the opportunity to see Brody create genuine on-screen chemistry for the first time since his time on The O.C. as Seth Cohen two decades ago.

Even though I was initially a little skeptical, I found myself hooked just two episodes in, thanks to the punchy writing and relatable storylines. It’s the kind of low-stakes, endearing, and genuinely funny television that has become all too rare as of late, and I think it works perfectly as a palate cleanser between heavier (or scarier) shows and movies that will be dominating the streaming services this month. Give it a shot, and I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

6
The Witcher: Season 4 (Oct. 30)

Shows often pull off major casting or plot changes over time. But after three seasons of this high-budget fantasy adaptation of the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, behind-the-scenes drama led to a significant shake-up at the top billing that will see Liam Hemsworth replace Henry Cavill as the white-haired main hero, Geralt of Rivia.

As someone who’s never read the source material, I’ve still been nothing short of impressed by this well-produced show. Fans of the novels appear to appreciate the series’ handling of the plot, which is also no small miracle for the genre.

However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing if Hemsworth can pick up where Cavill left off and keep the positive momentum going. Regardless, you’ll have until the end of the month to catch up if you want to start streaming the new season right away when it goes live on Oct. 30.

RELATED: 6 Best Shows to Stream If You Love “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

7
Love Is Blind: Season 9 (Oct. 1)

What more is there to say about this over-the-top dating program that hasn’t already been said? As always, a new set of contestants is making their way into the pods in hopes of matching up with their soul mate and agreeing to marry them—all before they ever set eyes on their newly discovered lifelong partner.

Speaking of wallpaper television, this show has long remained an odd fascination for me (how are there nine seasons?!), if only because it offers a glimpse into some people’s approach to relationships that typically only therapists get to see. Is it borderline nauseating to see some of the toxic and narcissistic behavior? Of course. But this is reality television, where those two attributes are practically par for the course!

Tune in if you’re looking for water-cooler gossip fodder peppered with glimmers of hope and genuinely heartfelt moments that intercede some of the inevitable trainwreck aspects of this show.

The lead-up to the premiere of Law & Order: SVU season 27 has been nothing short of exhilarating. Fans have been well fed with tons of Mariska Hargitay content, from her milestone anniversary with husband Peter Hermann to her explosive family documentary. Then, on Sunday, we were treated to her and fellow original SVU star Chris Meloni taking the stage at the Emmys to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Law & Order franchise.

And it will all culminate in the Sept. 25 premiere of the crime show’s 27th season—which Hargitay has been spearheading since she first stepped onto the scene as Olivia Benson in the 1999 pilot episode. (Fun fact: Law & Order: SVU has earned Hargitay the title of longest-running actress on a primetime drama series.)

So, what’s in store for the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit this season? Ice-T, who portrays Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, teased in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that “I get my [expletive] beaten and end up in the hospital,” in the very first episode.

The 30-second teaser shows Benson and the gang running around the streets of Manhattan, hunting down the concrete jungle’s most frightening criminals. In one clip, Hargitay’s character assures a victim that “It’s okay if you don’t want to fight because we are gonna fight for you,” before laying into a potential suspect: “I’m gonna make sure you spend the rest of your days in a six by eight cell.”

And Sunday, in a red-carpet interview before the Emmys, Meloni was asked if his SVU character, Elliot Stabler, will finally “hook up” with Olivia Benson. “I can’t tell you, America,” he responded, while snickering.

It’s been four months since season 26 concluded, but Olivia Benson fans have had plenty of content to indulge in in the interim.

Last month, Hargitay celebrated her 21st wedding anniversary to Hermann. The pair, who wed in 2006, share three children: sons August Miklos Friedrich and Andrew Nicholas Hermann, and daughter Amaya Josephine Hermann.

Hargitay documented the special milestone with a carousel of photos on Instagram. In a trio of selfies, the pair can be seen cuddled up next to one another at a restaurant. “Anniversary weekend #21,” she captioned the post with two red heart emojis.

But earlier this summer, Hargitay released a major project of her own. Her documentary, My Mom Jayne, dropped on Max in June. The emotional doc pulls back the curtain on her mom, Jayne Mansfield’s, life and career in Hollywood, and subsequently, her untimely death at the young age of 34 in 1967.

Perhaps the most shocking revelation to come from the film is when Hargitay reveals that the man who raised her is, in fact, not her biological father, Nelson Sardelli.

“I just always knew something was up,” Hargitay told The New York Times. She recalled not bearing a resemblance to her four siblings or dad, Mickey Hargitay. She said she was “tormented” by the panic of “not belonging anywhere.”

While Hargitary credits Mickey for her “perseverance,” she said a large part of her identity is shaped by her mom’s influence

“The reason that I’m like the way I am is because I learned from her,” Hargitay said of Jayne. “I learned what not to do. I learned to not let anyone tell me — that I decide.”

Fans can stream My Mom Jayne on Max ahead of the season 27 premiere of Law & Order: SVU on Sept. 25.

The post “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Character You Are, Based on Your Zodiac Sign appeared first on Best Life.

]]>
This week marks the end of an era—we’ll finally have our answer as to whether Conrad and Belly live happily ever after. But when any beloved series comes to an end, there’s a bit of sadness, too. There will be no more meme-sharing with your bestie on Instagram. No more arguing with your neighbor because they’re team Jellyfish. And no more reminiscing about sweet, young, summer love. Before we say goodbye to the Conklins and Fishers forever, we thought we’d have a little fun looking to the stars. Ahead, find out which character from The Summer I Turned Pretty you are, based on your zodiac sign.

RELATED: Astrologers Reveal the Perfect Engagement Ring for Each Zodiac Sign.

Aries (March 21-April 19): Agnes

When it comes to her medical-school internship, Agnes is not letting anything stand in her way, even a failed fling with her once-crush Conrad. This true boss exemplifies the competitiveness and leadership of an Aries.

And while this sign might get a bad rap for being a little too direct, Agnes’ bluntness with Conrad is coming from a good place—and it’s part of how he’s ultimately able to come to terms with his complicated feelings for Belly.

Taurus (April 20-May 20): Taylor Jewel

Stubborn? Check. Loyal to the end? Check check. Down-to-earth? Check check check. Taylor Jewel couldn’t be more of a Taurus if she tried.

Even after Belly lays into her on the big wedding day, Taylor is there to back up her lifelong best friend. And when Lucinda finds herself in financial trouble, Taylor gives up her big NYC internship without a second thought to bail her mother out.

Her headstrong and commitment-averse sides come out with Steven, but when she finally leans into the relationship, all the sensuality of a Taurus is right there.

Gemini (May 21-June 20): Belly Conklin

Of course, our leading lady is paired with the zodiac sign that can’t make up its mind. Belly’s love triangle with the Fisher brothers is the premise of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and in a lot of ways, it’s what makes her both complex and relatable.

But Gemini is more than just indecision. They’re social (remember the deb ball?), adaptable (moving to Paris on a whim, anyone?), and intellectually curious (French, volleyball, swimming, and sports psychology are pretty varied interests).

And for all Belly’s flip-flopping, it’s her ability to see things from two sides that makes her a loving, thoughtful person.

RELATED: The “Real Housewife” You’d Be Best Friends With, Based on Your Zodiac Sign.

Cancer (June 21-July 22): Cam Cameron

Cam from The Summer I Turned Pretty

Couldn’t you just hug Cam Cameron right now? Belly’s first kiss got his heart broken, and we could tell he was crushed. But like an intuitive, nurturing Cancer, he was able to put his feelings aside and understand where Belly’s heart belonged.

Cancer is also referred to as the homebody of the zodiac, and we respect Cam’s non-partying ways and cozy demeanor. But just because these crabs are sensitive doesn’t mean they’re not resilient.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Jeremiah Fisher

Leo is the life of the party, and if you’ve seen Jeremiah’s dance moves, you know this to be true. Unfortunately, that desire to be the center of attention (or, in this case, the center of his competition with Conrad) may have played an outsized role in Jeremiah’s courting of Belly.

It also means he didn’t handle second place very gracefully (after all, Leos are often referred to as the drama queens of the zodiac).

But under all that ego and showmanship, Leos have a deep-down sensitive and loyal side. We see this shine through in the cemetery scene when Jeremiah finally gives Conrad his blessing to be with Belly.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Laurel Park

Through the death of her best friend, her own divorce, and the impromptu wedding of her daughter, Laurel remains level-headed. While a Virgo’s pragmatism is often a good thing, it can lead them to be overly critical of others, and we see this rear its head when Laurel initially boycotts the wedding.

However, Virgos are also one of the most helpful zodiac signs. And no matter what ups and downs her family goes through, Laurel is there to be the backbone of the Conklin and Fisher kids.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Steven Conklin

Conrad and Jeremiah might get most of the attention, but Steven is arguably the biggest catch on The Summer I Turned Pretty. He’s a true romantic, even going so far as to throw rocks at Taylor’s window. One of the most touching scenes on the show is when Taylor finally explains why she’s scared of getting too close to him, and Steven reacts with nothing but love and understanding.

Libra, the sign of the scales, is also considered the most diplomatic member of the zodiac, which is certainly apparent in Steven’s ability to remain friends with both Fisher brothers despite their relationships with his sister. The same goes for how he helps Lucinda even when his heart is breaking for Taylor.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Conrad Fisher

Intense, passionate, mysterious—sound like a certain Fisher brother? Conrad is a Scorpio to a tee, from his brooding personality to how he guards his feelings (you know, by escaping to the other end of the country).

But at the end of the day, Scorpios are water signs, meaning they’re incredibly emotional. And when Conrad finally admits he still loves Belly the night before her wedding to Jeremiah, we see the full, fierce display of all these big emotions he’s been holding in.

Scorpios are also one of the most protective signs. Look at how Conrad will always love Belly, but perhaps more importantly, how he’ll never stop worrying about his brother (remember when he tells Steven to get Jeremiah a red Gatorade to nurse his hangover?).

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Shayla Wang

Shayla from The Summer I Turned Pretty

Shayla didn’t make it past season one, and that’s probably because she was jetsetting around the world, much like an adventurous Sagittarius. (Oh yeah, and also because Steven and Taylor got together.)

This zodiac sign is fun-loving, optimistic, and never one to shy away from trying something new. And it’s likely this self-assuredness and positive attitude that kept Shayla from becoming bitter over her relationship with Steven.

RELATED: The Rom-Com You Should Watch, Based on Your Zodiac Sign.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Denise Russo

Denise from The Summer I Turned Pretty

Capricorns are all-work, no-play in the office, often sacrificing personal time to get ahead at work, much like go-getter Denise.

But when a Capricorn finds someone they truly care about—in this case, Steven, ultimately a friend—they’ll do whatever they can to make them happy, even if that means championing their relationship with someone else.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Lucinda Jewel

Aquarians march to the beat of their own drum and often have eccentric views. Sadly, Lucinda’s unconventional thinking led to her losing her salon, but it’s also what created such a strong bond with her daughter.

Lucinda, at times, struggles to express her feelings to Taylor, but she takes matters into her own hands through her actions, such as enlisting Steven to review her finances. This might not have been a typical move, but it shows the lengths she’ll go to make her daughter happy.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): Susannah Fisher

These fish are among the most intuitive and empathetic zodiac signs, traits about Susannah that can’t be argued from how she navigated her family’s and friends’ emotions related to her own death.

Pisces’ deep-feeling nature also makes them extremely creative, which we see through Susannah’s painting.

At times, Susannah may exhibit some escapist tendencies, but her spiritual side is what allows her to face her own mortality in such a beautiful way.

The post 15 Coziest Movies to Watch This Fall appeared first on Best Life.

]]>
For many, the first crisp breeze of autumn kicks off a whole laundry list of must-do activities, from apple picking to pumpkin carving. But there’s something about the return of fall that makes the idea of getting comfortable on the couch and watching a movie seem more appealing than any other time of year. And while any comedy or drama might work after a day of raking leaves, you may want to select one of the best fall movies.

The truth is that many of the things that give autumn its charm can also make for great cinema. There are romantic comedies that see two characters slowly falling for each other amidst the colorful changing foliage. There are coming-of-age stories focused on students making the most of their return to school. And of course, there are plenty of subtly spooky films that embody all of the fun of Halloween season without being outright scary.

So, pour yourself a mug of warm cider, grab your softest blanket, and prepare to fully embrace autumn with the help of some classic films. Read on for the coziest movies to watch this fall.

RELATED: The 25 Best Classic Movies That Every Film Fan Needs to See.

1
You’ve Got Mail (1998)

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail"

There’s not much this 1998 Nora Ephron classic can’t provide to anyone looking for the ultimate comfort movie. Besides recapturing that one-of-a-kind Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan on-screen chemistry in a romantic comedy, having the plot center around a meet-cute on a now-obsolete internet service provides a uniquely nostalgic tone that only appears to be getting better with age.

But the film’s setting in New York—and especially Ryan’s gushing love letter to the city in the opening scenes—makes this movie more fall-friendly than a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils.

2
Ghostbusters (1984)

Ivan Reitman, Billy Murray, and Dan Akroyd in Ghostbusters

Few movies have made it out of the 1980s with as much lasting cultural relevance as Ghostbusters. But even as the franchise takes on a new life, the film that started it all still stands as a relatively family-friendly movie that is well worth a rewatch, blending lightly spooky elements with the cast’s stellar comedic chops. It’s the perfect film for getting into the Halloween spirit without veering into outright horror.

3
Rushmore (1998)

still from rushmore

As a director who has built his entire career on creating cozy and quirky vibes on film, Wes Anderson is at his most autumnal in Rushmore. Set at an elite private school, the plot pits the endearingly hapless Max Fisher (played by Jason Schwartzman) against an aging, jaded businessman (Bill Murray), who are both vying for the affection of one of the school’s widowed teachers.

Besides the darkly romantic comedy’s setting on a high school campus, Anderson’s trademark aesthetic style also makes this film feel particularly appropriate for fall viewing.

4
Julie & Julia (2009)

Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia

While summer comes with a bounty of fresh produce to work with, there’s something about autumn that beckons us all back to the kitchen. And what better way to inspire your fall menu than by embracing the godmother of American cozy cuisine herself?

Essentially two films sewn together, Julie & Julia follows Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) as she moves to France in the 1950s with her husband Paul Child (Stanley Tucci), enrolls in culinary school, and lays the groundwork to introduce classic French cuisine to American audiences with her iconic cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Meanwhile, another storyline covers blogger Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) in the early 2000s as she sets out to cook all 524 recipes outlined in the cookbook while documenting it on her personal blog.

While you could argue that some of the more modern-day storylines might not pack as much of an emotional punch, there’s something special about watching Streep step into the shoes of an American icon (which rightfully earned her an Oscar nod). And if you’ve ever needed a little push to finally attempt that weekend cassoulet or beef bourgignon as the leaves begin to change, this is very likely going to provide it.

5
Hocus Pocus (1993)

Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Naijmy in "Hocus Pocus" in 1993

Call it over-the-top millennial nostalgia if you want, but there’s no denying the seasonal importance Hocus Pocus has gained since its release in 1993. The live-action Disney feature has become an annual rewatch for anyone hoping to get in the Halloween spirit.

Besides the New England autumn setting, the campy and comedic performances from Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker as the villainous Sanderson sisters make it an undeniably fun and comforting fall classic.

6
Good Will Hunting (1997)

Matt Damon and Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting

It’s possible for a movie to be emotionally stirring and comforting at the same time. Good Will Hunting manages to achieve both, following the story of the titular Will Hunting (Matt Damon) as a reluctant genius working as a janitor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as he processes past abuses and trauma with a therapist (Robin Williams) while falling in love with a soon-to-be Harvard grad (Minnie Driver).

A collegiate backdrop and a soundtrack featuring plenty of Elliott Smith help provide plenty of fall vibes, but the story’s arc towards progress and renewal makes it an undeniably heartwarming viewing experience.

7
Amélie (2002)

Audrey Tautou in Amélie

Feel-good films hit even harder in autumn, and if you’re looking for an international escape, it’s hard to beat this French neo-classic. The story follows young Amélie Poulain (Audrey Tautou), a young Parisienne who overcomes childhood trauma to see the beauty in the small things throughout her day. Eventually, she takes it upon herself to help the characters in her life settle long-running problems by subtly lending a hand before falling in love herself.

Even in the storied history of French cinema, it’s hard to think of a film in the last few decades that has had as much of a cultural impact as this one. Not only does the vivid cinematography (and not to mention Paris essentially acting as a character itself) starkly stand out, but it’s depressingly rare to see movies with such a positive thread making their way into theaters lately. Grab some madeleines and a comfy blanket and curl up on the couch to watch this as a pick-me-up when you feel the first pangs of fall fatigue starting to set in.

8
Practical Magic (1998)

sandra bullock in practical magic

How can you really get the most out of a fall in a single movie? By combining otherworldly elements with lighthearted romantic comedy, of course! This 90s classic stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sisters who discover they come from a long lineage of witches—but things get complicated when they realize a family curse dooms any man they fall in love with to death.

Thanks to its mildly spooky premise and autumnal New England filming location, it’s also a quintessential fall film.

9
When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally

Even as a romantic comedy that helped redefine the genre, When Harry Met Sally isn’t technically a fall film based on its plot. But thanks to the slow course the attraction between Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan takes to develop, there are memorable scenes amidst stunning fall foliage that make this movie feel like the perfect couch date selection.

10
Almost Famous (2000)

Patrick Fugit and Kate Hudson in Almost Famous

Each fall, as kids begin to file back into school, it’s almost impossible to feel that unbridled optimism and potential that comes with youth. In this Cameron Crowe classic set in the 1970s, a teenage aspiring journalist (Patrick Fugit) manages to land an assignment covering a rock band on tour for Rolling Stone. Even though he eventually befriends the group and the peripheral cast of characters that follow them on the road, he eventually becomes deeply entrenched in the band’s underlying drama, putting his potential cover story at risk.

For me, seeing this movie for the first time when I was around the same age as the journalistic protagonist was transformational as a teen who was realizing a desire to become a writer himself. But even if you’ve never dreamt of being embedded with touring rockstars, Crowe’s signature ability to create richly developed characters and connections between them looms larger than ever here, ultimately making it a story about human relationships. Because of this, it’s unintentionally feel-good, which is arguably the best version of that genre.

11
Election (1999)

Reese Witherspoon in Election

Anyone looking for a refreshing take on “back to school” themes needs to look no further than Election. Penned and directed by Alexander Payne, this film follows the ever-ambitious Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) in her quest to become class president while down-on-his-luck history teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) navigates a personal crisis.

Darkly hilarious and superbly acted, this film helps revive some of the grittier elements of high school that often get steamrolled in coming-of-age films.

12
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Heath Ledger and Julie Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You

With back-to-school on the brain, why not take the chance to feel that warm, nostalgic glow with a classic teen movie? In this seminal coming-of-age film for elder millennials (adapted from The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare), the popular Bianca Stratford (Larisa Oleynik) and her hopeful boyfriend (Joseph Gordon Levitt) must convince recent Australian transfer student Patrick (Heath Ledger) to date Bianca’s angsty older sister, Cat (Julia Stiles).

From the iconic soundtrack to the throwback fashions, this film provides a wildly comforting return to the late 90s with a genuinely hilarious script, not to mention great comedic chops from the film’s up-and-coming (at the time) stars. And if you’ve somehow missed out on seeing this culturally essential film over the past decade and a half, you won’t regret taking the time to hit “play” on a chilly evening in.

13
Clue (1985)

The cast of Clue

Is there anything more fitting for fall than a murder mystery? Based on the classic board game, Clue comes to life as a darkly humorous whodunnit in the hands of a stellar ensemble cast that includes Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, and Michael McKean. The trio of alternate endings helps bring the audience along for the ride through a spooky mansion.

14
Moonstruck (1987)

moonstruck

A great romantic comedy has coziness built into every scene, which may be why Moonstruck often gets cited as one of the best movies to ever come out of the genre. In an Oscar-winning role, Cher stars as an Italian-American widow who falls for her new fiancé’s younger brother (Nicholas Cage), setting herself up for familial antics and self-discovery.

And while it might be good for year-round viewing, the setting in the beautiful Brooklyn Heights neighborhood in November makes it a great choice for a fall night.

15
Dead Poets Society (1989)

The cast of Dead Poets Society

Set at an all-boys boarding school in the late 1950s, this classic coming-of-age movie stars Robin Williams as John Keating, a newly hired English teacher who begins to instill non-traditional themes into his curriculum amid the stuffy academic environment. But after his students take a shine to his unorthodox methods and messages, parents and administrators push back. The collegiate, autumnal setting of the movie makes it an aesthetically perfect choice for fall viewing, but Williams’ unforgettable performance makes it a must-see (or rewatch) for anyone looking to feel that unbridled optimism of youth.

There’s a lot to love about autumn—fall foliage, pumpkin spice everything, and that cool, crisp air, to name a few. But the season can also bring a lot of anxiety with it. Back-to-school means juggling drop-offs, sports practices, and homework. At work, everyone’s back from their August vacations and ready to put the pedal to the metal. And let’s not forget about the impending holiday stress. So, if you need a break from it all, may we suggest cozying up on the couch with a laugh-out-loud show? The timing is perfect because four new comedies just hit your favorite streaming services.

RELATED: 7 New Netflix Shows Everyone Will Be Watching This September.

1. The Paper (Peacock)

Instead of rewatching The Office for the 10th time (or, maybe, in addition to), check out The Paper on Peacock.

“The fictional camera crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin are striking set and moving from Scranton to Toledo. The stars of their new mockumentary are staffers of a historic Midwestern newspaper, the ‘Toledo Truth-Teller’, and the publisher trying to bring it back to life with volunteer reporters,” shares a press announcement.

Given that The Paper was created, written, and executive-produced by Greg Daniels of The Office fame, and counts Ricky Gervais (co-creator of both the U.K. and U.S. versions of The Office) as another executive producer, you can expect the same deadpan humor and lovable cast of quirky characters. Speaking of, among the show’s stand-out list of actors is Oscar Nuñez, reprising his role as Oscar Martinez from The Office.

The first four episodes of The Paper dropped on Sept. 4, and you can expect two new episodes every Thursday through Sept. 25. Peacock has already renewed the comedy for a second season.

2. Only Murders in the Building: Season 5 (Hulu)

Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steve Martin) have returned for a fifth season as your favorite amateur detectives. Their New York City apartment building, the Arconia, keeps delivering with murders that need solving—perfect for our trio’s podcast and the makings of this cozy mystery show.

A review in The Washington Post titled “‘Only Murders in the Building’ peaks with a bouncy fifth season,” shares: “As the Hulu murder comedy takes on billionaires and the mob, its stable of colorful suspects includes Téa Leoni, Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger and Christoph Waltz.”

The first three episodes of Only Murders in the Building season five are available to stream now on Hulu and Disney+. New episodes will air every Tuesday until the season finale on Oct. 28.

3. Platonic: Season 2 (Apple TV+)

Sylvia (Rose Byrne) and Will (Seth Rogan) were best buds, partying pals, and each other’s wingmen back in their youth. After a friendship hiatus, they reconnect when Sylvia is married with three kids and Will has just opened a new brewery on the heels of his divorce. As they spend more time together, they get into all sorts of mishaps, shaking up their everyday lives.

In Platonic, you can expect Rogan’s signature self-deprecating jokes and teenager-in-a-man’s-body humor, but both he and Byrne do a great job making their characters relatable and perfectly flawed.

Season two kicked off last month; seven episodes are currently available, with the final three shows going live on Wednesdays.

4. Stick (Apple TV+)

This show is being described as Ted Lasso with golf, and that’s not far off. Former golf pro Pryce “Stick” Cahill (Owen Wilson) takes budding youngster golfer Santi (Peter Dager) under his wing. You can’t help but root for these two lovable characters, both of whom bring some of their past baggage to the plot.

And while this heartwarming show definitely has its serious, life-lesson moments, the laughs are plenty, especially from fellow lead characters Elena, Santi’s mom, played by Mariana Treviño, and Mitts, Stick’s former caddy and best friend, played by Marc Maron.

All 10 episodes of Stick’s premier season are available now to stream.

I mean this with all due respect to romance queen Jenny Han, but I need The Summer I Turned Pretty finale to be here already because the series has taken over my life. I am deep in the Instagram Reels and TikTok trenches of “Bonrad” content. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was this heavily invested (AKA, utterly obsessed) in a fictional love triangle—let alone found myself identifying with a “Team.” And to be clear: I’m Team Conrad all the way.

Whether you’re Team Jelly or craving more Cousins Beach, I’ve rounded up the six best shows that you can stream right now that have the same vibes as The Summer I Turned Pretty—including another title created by Han. Add these TV shows to your watch list ASAP.

1
My Life with the Walter Boys (Netflix)

Noah LaLonde in My Life With the Walter Boys

“I don’t want to break my brother’s heart, but I can’t not want you,” — sound familiar? In this small-town love triangle, two brothers pine after a New York City transplant who comes to stay at their family ranch in rural Colorado. It’s Team Cole versus Team Alex.

Similarly, My Life with the Walter Boys is based on the book of the same name written by Ali Novak. Season two just dropped on Netflix last month, and it’s been confirmed that season three is already in early production.

2
XO, Kitty (Netflix)

Anna Cathcart in XO, Kitty

XO, Kitty is a teen spinoff of the beloved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie trilogy, also adapted from Han’s novels of the same title. Han created the original TV series for Netflix. It follows Kitty, the youngest of the Covey sisters, as she moves to Seoul and enrolls in an elite boarding school, hoping to reconnect with her late mother, who also studied there.

Production just wrapped for season three, so fans should be getting a premiere date soon. In the meantime, you can catch up on all of Kitty’s adventures (and crushes) from seasons one and two on Netflix.

3
One Day (Netflix)

One Day: Limited Series

For nearly two decades, Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew find themselves stuck in a complicated, will-they-or-won’t-they relationship following a memorable encounter the night of their college graduation. One Day is a timeline of early adulthood, encapsulating first loves, self-discovery, tragic loss, career firsts, and more.

If the show’s premise sounds familiar, that’s because it was originally a film adaptation starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. The romantic drama is based on the 2009 book by David Nicholls, who wrote the movie screenplay and served as executive producer of the Netflix version.

4
Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

never have I ever

Created by comedy genius Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever follows Devi as she navigates the highs and lows of high school in the wake of her father’s traumatic and unexpected death. Devi’s friendship with Eleanor and Fabiola reminds me a lot of Belly and Taylor’s sisterly bond. And of course, Devi catches feelings for the campus hottie and smartest guy in class—because what’s high school without a messy love triangle?

The original Netflix series wrapped in 2023 after four successful seasons.

5
Dash & Lily (Netflix)

Midori Francis in Dash & Lily

If you’re still not over Conrad’s handwritten letters, queue Dash & Lily as your next TV binge. The protagonists communicate via a red notebook that they pass back and forth at undisclosed locations, sending one another on a magical scavenger hunt around the Big Apple during Christmastime.

6
The O.C. (HBO Max or Hulu)

Ben McKenzie and Adam Brody on The O.C.

Millennials are crushing hard on Conrad Fisher, who has been dubbed the modern-day Ryan Atwood from the hit series The O.C. It’s essentially the 2000s West Coast version of TSITP, set in a California beach town and with double the amount of drama. It ran for four seasons and starred A-listers Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, and Adam Brody.

1. Unknown Number: The High School Catfish (Netflix)

Ranked the number one movie on Netflix right now, this disturbing documentary takes you on a wild ride through a shocking cyberbullying case in small-town Michigan. With twists and turns ripped from viral news headlines, you would never guess who the catfish turns out to be.

Yet even if you already know how the story ends, this movie is still well worth a watch. Just as shocking as the final revelation is how the people closest to the culprit react in never-before-seen interviews.

2. Katrina: Come Hell and High Water (Netflix)

New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago in 2005, but the city is still feeling its aftershocks today. This three-part docuseries—produced by Geeta Gandbhir, Samantha Knowles, and Spike Lee—tells the emotional stories of survivors and sheds new light on the government’s failed response to the crisis.

3. Fit For TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser (Netflix)

If you watched the reality TV show The Biggest Loser during its heyday, you already know that it was not just a show, but a phenomenon. Headlined by celebrity fitness instructors Jilian Michaels and Bob Harper, the series followed contestants for 18 seasons as they fought to lose weight—apparently by any means necessary.

Fit For TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser goes behind the scenes to tell a fuller story about the indignities suffered on set, leaving participants divided about the show’s ultimate impact.

4. Quarterback (Netflix)

As football season kicks off, fans won’t need to wait until the big game to get fully immersed in the sport. Each season of this aptly named documentary series follows the ups and downs of three NFL quarterbacks’ lives and careers, starting with Patrick Mahomes, Marcus Mariota, and Kirk Cousins in season one, and returning with Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and a Cousins reprise in season two.

Lovers of the game will enjoy seeing the sport up close and personal, but anyone watching can appreciate the drama and pressure of leading a team, as well as the personal sacrifices the players make on and off the field.

5. The Truth About Jussie Smollett? (Netflix)

In 2019, Empire actor Jussie Smollett claimed he had been attacked outside of his apartment in a hate crime, the perpetrators using homophobic and racial slurs as they allegedly punched him and tied a rope around his neck. Soon after, the police declared their incident a hoax, determining that Smollett had staged the attack with the help of two acquaintances.

The Truth About Jussie Smollett takes a closer look at the controversy, reopening the case and the possibility of Smollett’s redemption.

6. The Yoghurt Shop Murders (HBO)

An unsolved mystery that dates back to the early 90s, The Yoghurt Shop Murders tells the story of four teenage girls who were fatally shot at a frozen yogurt shop in Austin, Texas. The series explores the theories behind each of the case’s suspects, details a dramatically overturned conviction, and leaves the audience to draw their conclusions about who was responsible for the tragedy.

7. Evelyn (Netflix)

Evelyn is the heart-wrenching story of a U.K. film director, Orlando von Einsiedel, confronting the impact of his brother Evelyn Einsiedel‘s tragic suicide 13 years prior. Together with his family, von Einsiedel sets out on a walking path that Evelyn liked to hike, while trying to make sense of his life and death.

With a coveted 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie follows the family’s raw journey toward closure, and opens a powerful conversation on a topic too often shrouded in silence.

If you can’t commit to an entire binge-worthy series, Netflix has a slew of new movies out this month that’ll help ease you out of beach season and into cozy season. Read on for the seven best movies to watch in September.

1
The Thursday Murder Club (out now)

Based on the beloved book series by author Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club follows a group of senior sleuths in an English luxury retirement village. The quirky, lovable amateur detectives are played by an all-star cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and Ben Kingsley (need we say more?).

Reviews of the movie agree that it’s the cozy camaraderie of the cast that really makes this adaptation click.

“It has the advantage of a cast so appropriate it almost feels that Osman wrote the characters to accommodate them, and the disadvantage of having to discharge its complicated narrative and various human business in two hours,” reported the Los Angeles Times.

The fact that it’s filmed at Englefield House, “an Elizabethan country estate where Pippa Middleton got married,” according to Town & Country, doesn’t hurt either.

2
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish (out now)

If it seems like each month there’s a new Netflix documentary that everyone you know is talking about, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish is the September pick.

The documentary film recounts the story of Lauryn Licari and Owen McKenny, a teenage couple from Beal City, Michigan, who were cyberstalked for over two years by an unknown harasser. The mysterious texter knew extremely private details about Licari, sending threatening and vulgar messages.

Director Skye Borgman includes the actual texts, body cam footage, FBI interviews with Licari, her family, and classmates, and more. The twisty conclusion is one that you won’t believe.

3
My Oxford Year (out now)

In 2016, The Washington Post said, “The rom-com is dead.” However, in more recent years, perhaps in response to the growing popularity of romance books among women, the film genre has been inching towards a comeback, thanks in large part to streaming services.

The latest installment from Netflix is My Oxford Year, which stars Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest and is based on the novel of the same name by author Julia Whelan. “An ambitious American fulfilling her dream of studying at Oxford falls for a charming Brit hiding a secret that may upend her perfectly planned life,” reads the Netflix synopsis.

We won’t lie to you: The reviews haven’t been great. But if you’re looking for a fun, flirty flick set against beautiful Oxford, you probably won’t hate it.

4
KPop Demon Hunters (out now)

This is one of those movies that you may decide to watch just so you can be in on the conversation. After all, the animated musical now holds the title of Netflix’s most-watched original film ever.

In comparing it to other so-called family films, a Yahoo! Entertainment reporter says, “KPop Demon Hunters feels universal, blending fast-paced action, clever humor, and a surprising amount of heart.”

The story centers on a trio of K-pop stars who, when they’re not performing catchy tunes on stage, protect their fans from supernatural demons.

5
Countdown: Canelo v Crawford (Sept. 4)

On Sept. 13, boxers Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford will enter the ring in Vegas with the unified super middleweight belt on the line. Arranged by legendary promoter Dana White, the fight will stream live on Netflix.

But nine days before the main event, Netflix is releasing Countdown: Canelo v Crawforda documentary narrated by Academy Award–nominated actor Josh Brolin that follows the two boxers as they prepare for the historic fight.

6
The Wrong Paris (Sept. 12)

The Wrong Paris stars Miranda Cosgrove (who’s also an executive producer) and Pierson Fode, and combines two popular trends in the romcom-verse: Cowboys and reality TV.

“Dawn thinks she’s joining a dating show in Paris, France, only to land in Paris, Texas. She has an exit plan — until sparks fly with the cowboy bachelor,” reads the Netflix description.

Early reviews are pegging this as corny, lighthearted, and just the kind of escapist fun a lot of us need right now. Think of it as Ransom Canyon meets The Bachelor.

7
Ruth & Boaz (Sept. 26)

Here’s another romcom! (The genre is clearly not dead.) Ruth & Boaz is a modern retelling of a biblical love story, produced by Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin (they have a new partnership to bring faith-based programming to Netflix), and starring Serayah, Tyler Lepley, Phylicia Rashad, and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

In this version, Ruth (Serayah) is a rising hip-hop star who leaves her glam life in Atlanta to get a fresh start in rural Tennessee. While there, she cares for her late boyfriend’s widowed mother (Rashad) and meets a new interest (Lepley).

1
The Great British Baking Show: Collection 13 (Sept. 5)

still of a male contestant on The Great British Baking Show

The much-sought-after Paul Hollywood handshake returns in all its glory when the 13th season of The Great British Baking Show returns. The famed blue-eyed baker will be joined by his fellow judge Prue Leith (and her oversized jewelry), along with hosts Noel Fielding, a comedian and actor, and TV presenter Alison Hammond.

Twelve new bakers will enter the tent, ranging from a 23-year-old medical student to a 59-year-old whose endearing hobbies include singing show tunes and volunteering at his local animal shelter, according to the Netflix blog Tudum.

The first episode drops on Sept. 5, with new ones arriving on your streaming service every Friday.

2
Black Rabbit (Sept. 18)

still of Jude Law in the Netflix series Black Rabbit

The world of high-end restaurants might present itself as one of glitz and glamor, but what happens behind the scenes can be anything but.

In this limited series, two brothers (played by Jude Law and Jason Bateman) find themselves thrust into a seedy underworld when their white hot New York City dining establishment (called Black Rabbit, naturally) is threatened by an unpaid debt to a crime boss.

“It’s really about these brothers who love each other but don’t match: One’s a screw-up, and the other is much more buttoned up,” Bateman recently told Netflix blog Tudum. “Everybody can relate to that. Everybody’s either got a sibling, or a friendship where you love being with one another, but it’s kind of dangerous; where that person usually gets you in trouble, but they’re really exciting to be around.”

Even though I first became a die-hard Jason Bateman fan thanks to his pitch-perfect comedic timing in Arrested Development, it’s been genuinely thrilling to see him thrive in dramatic thrillers. Shows like Ozark have proven that he’s capable of much more than making us laugh, and pairing him up with a heavy-hitter like Law all but promises this show will draw you in and keep you watching. I fully expect this to be one show I watch in one or two settings once it goes live on the service.

3
Love is Blind: France (Sept. 10)

still of a couple looking out at the Eiffel Tower in Love Is Blind: France

France is the 11th country to get the Love is Blind treatment, and fans of the reality show will surely not want to miss a chance to watch a group of 30 singles look for love in none other than the “City of Love.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the premise, Netflix breaks it down: “Divided into pods, French singles meet, date and get engaged — sight unseen — in their quest to find and marry their one true love.” But quick note: A watch of the trailer reveals that the show’s been dubbed for an American audience, which we know is not everyone’s cup of tea.

4
House of Guinness (Sept. 25)

still from Netflix's House of Guiness

It doesn’t matter if you’re an expert at splitting the “G” or can’t stand the thought of sipping on a stout: You simply can’t deny that the Guinness brand is one of the most notable and prolific across the globe.

In this brand new drama from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, you can finally drink in the intrigue and lore of the people who helped get the company to that point.

“It’s the extraordinary story of a family who happens to be the inheritors of the biggest brewery in the world. They’re young and are given the task of taking on this incredibly successful brand,” Knight told Tudum. “The first priority is: Don’t screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger.”

Given that Peaky Blinders was arguably one of the most enjoyable and well-produced shows of the past decade, I do not doubt that this show will be a riveting ride. Even if it’s not as steeped in criminal mischief as its predecessor, eager viewers are already calling it a “period piece Succession,” which is about all I need to hear to tune in—likely with a pint in hand.

5
Next Gen Chef (Sept. 17)

Close up of a man in a white chef's jacket shaving black truffle onto a mushroom pizza

While we all love fawning over successful and established chefs, there’s something undeniably special about coming across a young culinary industry upstart.

In this new competition show, 21 chefs under 30 will put their skills to the test with a series of challenges developed by the esteemed Culinary Institute of America, with just one winner walking away as a leading voice for Gen Z cooks.

I can’t lie: Shows like Top Chef have been a steady comfort watch for me for decades, and it feels like this one will be impossible to skip. I also deeply appreciate taking a more realistic, structured approach to showcase genuine talent and skill that doesn’t involve working in an insane ingredient or coming up with a dish in a bizarre location.

If you’re one of those people who (like me) miss the days when Food Network actually used to teach you a thing or two, this might be just the new series you’re looking for!

6
Wednesday: Season 2 Part 2 (Sept. 3)

Jenna Ortega in Wednesday

Last month, we were treated to the first batch of episodes of this runaway s-eerie-s based on the Addams family’s eldest daughter as she returned to boarding school. So far, we’ve seen even more from our favorite kooky and spooky familiar characters (including the introduction of the elder matriarch, Grandmama, played fantastically by Joanna Lumley).

But even though you couldn’t outright binge this second season, you can finally see what’s in store when the second set of episodes hits Netflix early in the month. And this time, there’s even a highly anticipated Lady Gaga cameo to look forward to!

Honestly, Wednesday now feels like the kind of show you should barely have to convince someone to watch. From the superb casting to the genuinely hilarious writing (and not to mention having Tim Burton involved), it’s becoming increasingly rare to see a series that is this well-done and entertaining on streaming platforms. Plus, Jenna Ortega is a bona fide sensation as far as I’m concerned! It’s been brilliant watching her fill such an iconic role and make it her own.

7
Wayward (Sept. 25)

Toni Collette in Wayward

Not all teen-focused shows are rosy and cheerful. This new limited series thriller (produced in Canada) focuses on a couple who move to the small, remote town of Tall Pines. They soon get pulled into the mystery surrounding a corrective camp for troubled teens, which is run and administered by the quixotic Evelyn (played by Toni Collette). Soon, they realize the picturesque town they’ve chosen as their home is actually brimming with dark collective secrets and conspiracies.

Comedian Mae Martin is the show’s creator, and says she drew upon her own experiences when concocting the program, while also drawing from darker films like Fargo, Get Out, and Girl, Interrupted. “I was a wayward teen in the early 2000s, and my best friend was sent to one of these troubled teen institutes when she was 16,” Martin told Tudum. “She came back and had just the craziest stories about it.”

Frankly, I could watch Toni Collette paint a wall and still be riveted. Her involvement alone is going to be enough to get me to tune in, but the subject matter of teens processing their adolescence while dealing with sinister scenarios also makes for fantastic viewing. It’s also a great way to start wading into the “spooky season” waters ahead of October!

The post 7 Twisty, Seductive Page-Turners for Fans of “The Hunting Wives” appeared first on Best Life.

]]>
I binged May Cobb‘s The Hunting Wives in one weekend back in early 2022, and I was instantly hooked. So when I heard it was being adapted into a TV series led by Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow, I knew we (A.K.A., the readers) were going to be in safe hands, and secondly, we were in for a wild ride.

The thriller is about a couple from Boston who relocate to a small, conservative Texas town for work. At her husband’s request, Sophie (Snow) tries her best to make nice with the other rich wives. She ends up befriending Margo (Akerman), whose secrets and feelings about the other “Hunting Wives” know no bounds. When a local girl is found dead, chaos ensues.

Although Cobb hasn’t penned a sequel to The Hunting Wives, fans are anxiously waiting to see if Netflix will renew the show for a second season. Until then, we’ve gathered seven similar titles with characters who are just as mysterious and seductive as the women of Maple Brook, Texas.
